Wiim Sound review: a smart speaker that nearly replaces Sonos
The Wiim Sound smart speaker is available in Black and White for $299. It pairs a neat touchscreen display with an unassuming design, but the display is more aesthetic than practical, and the speaker does not support Apple Music or AirPlay. Voice commands require the included remote or registering the device with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home.
Sonically, the Wiim Sound impresses. It uses two full-range tweeters and a 4-inch long-throw woofer for strong bass and clear highs, with mids that sit forward without fighting for attention. At low volumes the bass is present, and at louder levels the speaker can rattle a surface, though pushing it too far brings some distortion; the unit supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz and produces a more pronounced bass response than the Sonos Era 100.
The Wiim Home companion app contains EQ settings, streaming service access, and playlist creation.
