Will Sony continue selling PS5 games on PC?
Several well-connected journalists say Sony is rolling back its strategy of putting big, single-player PlayStation games on Windows PC. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said, “The sense I'm getting is that they're backing away from putting their exclusive console stuff, like traditional single-player stuff, on PC.
[...] I think that’s going to stop,” and he cited Marvel’s Wolverine as an example. Digital Foundry’s John Linneman added, “I have an inkling that they’re pulling away from PC.” Those insiders stress the change doesn’t apply to live-service titles, which will continue to pursue multiplatform releases; Helldivers 2 has been an enormous hit on Steam, and Bungie’s Marathon is arriving on PC and Xbox as well as PS5.
Still, stepping back from PC would be a notable turn against the gravitational pull of Steam. The reason is simple: after a strong start, Sony’s PC ports aren’t selling as well as hoped.
