Will Trent has long been haunted by James Ulster, the lawyer revealed to be the serial killer connected to Will's mother's death. Ulster died early in Season 4, but visions of him continue to plague Will, and for much of this season the show lacked a central antagonist to replace him.

The latest episode, "He Lives!", follows Will as he investigates a murder carried out with Ulster's signature method and discovers the victim shares the name of his uncle, Antonio Morales. The case leads him to Puerto Rico, where he crosses paths with FBI agent Lana Elkie.

Back in Atlanta, Faith finds that Ulster left a journal to his biological daughter, Adelaide Trevins, who had repeatedly tried to contact him despite his rejection. The investigation turns out to be a setup: Lana had been killed and Adelaide was impersonating her.
