William Shatner Pitches Raisin Bran in Super Bowl Commercial
Nytimes reports WK Kellogg will run its first Super Bowl ad for Raisin Bran, featuring William Shatner and pitching the cereal as a way to get over “gut regret” after indulgent eating. The article notes that sales of breakfast cereals have been declining. In the cheeky spot, “Will Shat,” also known as William Shatner, beams from a spacecraft to various venues, tossing boxes of Raisin Bran to unsuspecting revelers.
The ad includes lines such as “Duty calls” and “Every darn day,” and when he beams into a house party he asks, “Is that a Shih Tzu?” The piece says commercials during the Super Bowl airing on NBC are going for as much as $10 million. The Times says WK Kellogg, acquired last year by Ferrero, is using the ad to tap a resurgent interest in fiber.
Experts quoted in the story say about 90 percent of Americans don’t get enough fiber, most adults aren’t consuming the recommended 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams for men, and consuming 50 to 75 grams a day can cause bloating, gas or significant gastrointestinal issues.
