Woman charged with aggravated assault after allegedly throwing 25-pound plate at gym
People reports that Aralyn Martinez, 24, was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly throwing a 25-pound weight plate at someone her partner was involved with at a 24 Hour Fitness in Spring, Texas.
The Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office said deputies learned the suspect assaulted the complainant inside the gym after recognizing them. A charging document alleges Martinez intentionally and knowingly threatened the victim with "imminent bodily injury by using and exhibiting a deadly weapon, namely, a 25-pound weight plate," on Tuesday, Jan. 6. A personal bond order states the altercation was captured on cell phone video and alleges Martinez said, "bitch, I'm going to drop this plate on you" before throwing it; KHOU 11 reported the complainant moved out of the way and avoided injuries, and Capt. Juan Flores told KHOU 11 that bystanders intervened.
Martinez was arrested on Jan. 7 and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and released on a $1,000 bond. An amended pretrial supervision and bond order says alcohol was a factor, bans her from going within 200 feet of the alleged victim and the gym, and requires drug and alcohol testing. Her arraignment is set for Thursday, Jan. 22.
