At a Thursday night home game, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the crowd observed a moment of silence for Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday, the team and attendees were shown.

The moment ended as someone in the arena shouted, “Go home ICE,” and the crowd applauded. Federal officials said Ms. Good was part of a protest and had driven into an officer, though a New York Times analysis of bystander videos found her vehicle appeared to be turning away when the officer opened fire.

The shooting followed weeks in which ICE officials warned agents to be prepared to take “appropriate and decisive action” amid heightened protests, and Minnesota officials, including Gov. Tim Walz, said the administration’s operations had become reckless. Separately, federal agents shot two people during a traffic stop in Portland, Ore., on Thursday.

A Homeland Security spokeswoman said U.S. Border Patrol agents fired after a driver tried to run them over and described the target as an undocumented immigrant and alleged member of the Tren de Aragua gang, providing no immediate evidence for that affiliation. Portland’s police chief said local officials had limited information and that the F.B.I.
