Alexa Occhipinti grew tired of her open-concept living area in late 2025 and added a pony wall between the dining and living areas. The white half wall, complete with a column and molding, cost $2,500 and was built in a single day by Primespec Construction. She and her husband bought the Sacramento house in 2020, and the open layout originally appealed to them.

With two toddlers, however, the main floor felt overstimulating: toys were everywhere and the TV was visible from the table, which disrupted meals and daily flow. Occhipinti had previously worked with Primespec to turn a second-floor loft into a bedroom, a change that made that floor feel larger.

For the main level she wanted to maintain an open, airy feeling while creating clearer separation without slicing the space into three small rooms. The pony wall divides the living and dining areas while preserving sight lines: the couch backs onto one side and the dining table sits on the other.
