The player housing in World of Warcraft: Midnight has solid foundations. There’s plenty of creative control—enough to build Star Destroyers—robust clipping options, and a generous supply of decor already available in the game. With the expansion’s launch came Hearthsteel, a premium currency sold in bundles of 100 ($1/£0.90), 500 ($5/£4.50), 1,000 ($10/£9), 2,500 ($25/£22.50), 5,000 ($50/£45) and 10,000 ($100/£90).

Many decor packs sit at 2,500 Hearthsteel, yet individual items are often priced awkwardly: Alliance and Horde doormats cost 200 Hearthsteel, the Spring Blossom Chair and Tree are 250, and the Spring Blossom Gazebo is 800—200 short of the 1,000 pack. A few items, like plushies and the Lush Garden Fungal Fountain, avoid this pattern, but overall the pricing pushes players to spend more than they might expect to purchase specific pieces.
