Half time: Wrexham 1-1 Chelsea. It was a hard-fought first half with few clear chances. Sam Smith finished well to put Wrexham ahead before Chelsea were levelled by an unfortunate own goal from Arthur Okonkwo. Wrexham's opener arrived when Doyle played a long pass over Chelsea's high line, Sam Smith controlled on the run and slotted in from the edge of the area; there was a VAR check but the goal stood.

The leveller came after a driven pass from Delap set up Garnacho, whose shot beat the keeper; Thomason’s clearance struck the back of Okonkwo and ricocheted into the net. Phil Parkinson made three changes to the Wrexham side that beat Charlton, bringing in Ryan Longman, Zak Vyner and Sam Smith.

Liam Rosenior made nine changes from midweek, with Jorrel Hato and Alejandro Garnacho the only survivors of that line-up; both teams began with back threes. The Racecourse Ground has been lively, with Wrexham co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds among those celebrating in the stands.
