Wuthering Heights Overtakes Tom Hanks' Road to Perdition Globally
Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year so far, surviving divisive reviews to open far stronger than expected. The film has grossed more than $70 million domestically and almost $120 million overseas, for a cumulative global haul of more than $190 million against a reported budget of $80 million.
It should be able to pass the $200 million milestone this weekend and recently overtook the $183 million lifetime global haul of Road to Perdition. Road to Perdition, the 2002 gangster drama starring Tom Hanks and directed by Sam Mendes, earned six Oscar nods and won for Best Cinematography.
It holds a "Certified Fresh" 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes and features Paul Newman, Daniel Craig, Jude Law and Stanley Tucci; it has since become something of a cult favorite.
