Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has now passed Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow at the global box office, with Fennell’s film grossing more than $210 million worldwide compared with Sleepy Hollow’s $207 million. Sleepy Hollow, released in 1999, was produced on a reported $100 million budget and marked Burton’s third collaboration with Johnny Depp; Paramount had reportedly wanted Brad Pitt or Daniel Day-Lewis for the role.

The cast also included Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Christopher Lee and Richard Griffiths, and the film was based on the short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," which was published in 1820. Fennell’s movie stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi and has earned its box office total against a reported $80 million budget.

Wuthering Heights is currently playing in theaters. On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Sleepy Hollow holds a 71% score, higher than Wuthering Heights’ 58%.
