X-Men '97 will return for Season 2 this summer, though Marvel has not yet placed the animated series on Disney+'s schedule. The show remains exceptionally well regarded, holding a 99% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 91% on Popcornmeter, and it has already been renewed for a third season.

Marvel announced a new prequel comic, X-Men '97: Season Two, which bridges the events of Seasons 1 and 2. The book is written by Steve Foxe, with art by Salva Espin and a cover by Todd Nauck; variant covers will be available from Jhony Caballero, Natacha Bustos and Dan Jurgen.

The comic goes on sale on June 3 and will explore the season’s biggest plot threads, spotlight major new characters and teams, and follow the X-Men left behind in a world that hunts mutantkind. There was a two-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, but Season 3 is already moving forward: Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue, confirmed she was about to begin recording for the next season.
