Marvel Comics announced a prelude series for the second season of X-Men '97, a comic that will act as a bridge between seasons and whose release date offers the best hint yet about when the show might return. Titled X-Men '97: Season Two, the five-issue series from writer Steve Foxe and artist Salva Espin picks up where season one left off.

Foxe said the prequel "doesn’t take any cheats or shortcuts around that wild status quo," and Marvel teased: "Follow the X-Men left behind in a world that hunts and hates mutantkind! Can they survive? And just where — or when — are the X-Men now?!" The announcement also hints the comic will feature "major new characters — and teams — joining the cast." Issue #1 arrives on June 3, a date that suggests season 2 remains on track for a summer 2026 premiere and might arrive sooner than expected.
