Xbox advances AI features while pledging to protect creators
At GDC 2026 Microsoft outlined plans to build AI directly into Xbox at the platform and hardware levels while emphasizing that game makers and content creators will remain central to the rollout. Haiyan Zhang said the company wants creative control to stay with game creators and development teams, and that the AI features are intended to support developers’ vision.
The company highlighted three main features. Auto Super Resolution, available on Windows 11, is designed to boost framerate without losing resolution and will come to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds sometime in April. AI-clipped highlight reels automatically save notable gameplay moments and just arrived on ROG Xbox Ally handhelds for Xbox Insiders.
Gaming Copilot, powered by a large language model, can give in-game help — examples shown included calibrating a Ford Escort in Forza Horizon, getting started in Sea of Thieves, and finding a specific drop in Diablo 4.
