XCOM 2 is ten years old, and 2K is marking the anniversary with a free weekend on Steam and a 95% discount on the base game for the next week plus change. The sequel is currently priced at $3 (£1.74). Firaxis' follow-up improved on X-COM: Enemy Unknown, refining Julian Gollop's original while keeping the tension, heartbreak and sense of facing overwhelming odds, and ironing out many of the original's kinks.

The War of the Chosen expansion is also discounted, 90% off at $4 (£3.94). It layers back in granularity by adding multiple resistance factions, powerful sub-bosses that hunt you through missions, and three specialist classes: Templar assassins, grappling-hook wielding Skirmishers, and ultra-stealthy Reapers.

There still isn’t an XCOM 3. It has been ten years since XCOM 2 and four years since Firaxis' last turn-based tactics game, Marvel's Midnight Suns; Jake Solomon left Firaxis to found his own studio in 2023.
