Xemu Android port causes stir over $8 Play Store app
An unofficial Android port of the Xemu Xbox emulator, released as "X1 Box" by Izzy2lost, has sparked debate after appearing on the Play Store with an $8 price tag. One of Xemu's original developers called the decision unfortunate and said an official Android app is coming that will make the paid app moot.
A free fork is available on GitHub and Izzy2lost has also posted an APK, but many users who head straight to the Play Store will end up paying if they don't sideload. I tried the free X1 Box on a Mangmi Pocket Max, sideloading the port and using its BIOS, boot and HDD emulation components; the build felt experimental rather than ready for regular play.
Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey struggled to boot initially and later showed broken visuals, glitchy audio and shaky frame rates. Soul Calibur 2 wouldn't read the disc at first but ran after redoing setup; its menus were slick, though fights ran at roughly 60% speed with aggressively sharp audio.
