The XRP Ledger will activate Permissioned Domains on February 4 after more than 91% of validators backed the XLS-80 amendment.

Permissioned Domains are credential-gated access layers on the public XRPL, built on the XLS-70 Credentials framework. Domain owners set accepted credentials and accounts with those credentials become members automatically, and the amendment adds new ledger objects and management transactions for domains. The proposal notes security depends on trusted credential issuers and domain governance.

The upgrade strengthens XRPL’s institutional utility but is unlikely to be an immediate price catalyst. XLS-80 does not change XRP supply, fee structure or demand dynamics; any price benefit would likely be indirect and hinge on future institutional deployments that drive sustained on-chain activity. XRP has fallen 16% over the past seven days and was trading at $1.59, down 0.62% over the last 24 hours.
