Lamine Yamal calmly converted a last-minute penalty to earn Barcelona a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park after Harvey Barnes had put Newcastle ahead with a back-post finish from Jacob Murphy's cross. The spot-kick arrived with the four minutes of added time up, when Malick Thiaw fouled Dani Olmo and Yamal sent Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way.

The scoreline flattered the visitors, who struggled to create and looked unsettled throughout. Robert Lewandowski appeared off the pace and squandered a big chance, Raphinha was unusually quiet, and Yamal was largely marked out of the game by Hall before his composed penalty.

Midfield and defence offered mixed displays: Pedri failed to impose himself and was substituted, Fermin Lopez worked hard, and Marc Bernal put in plenty of industry but had limited influence. Joan Garcia produced a fine save yet should have done better for Barnes' goal; Ronald Araujo was shifted to the right, while Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin stood out and Joao Cancelo provided little going forward.
