Yan Diomande: 'It was the right decision' on turning down Chelsea
RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande says he turned down the chance to join Chelsea earlier in his career. The 19-year-old has been in the spotlight after starring for Leipzig, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the Bundesliga so far this season, and is expected to attract interest from clubs such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Diomande has downplayed talk of a move to Anfield, saying his father is the one who dreamed of Liverpool. "People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club... I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig," he told Bild.
He revealed he had trials at Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Rangers, and faced a choice between Chelsea and Leganes before opting for the latter. "It was a difficult time. I felt like for many people, it was all about money... Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: Leganes or Chelsea?
