Yoko Taro, the creator of Drakengard and the Nier series, will write and oversee composition of a new Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. The project was announced as part of Evangelion:30+, the series' 30th anniversary, and an official press release on evangelion.jp provided no story details.

Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe are listed as directors, with Keiichi Okabe handling the music. Production will be split between Studio Khara and CloverWorks.

Taro's recent work includes the Nier mobile game Reincarnation, the card-based RPG The Voices of Cards: The Island Dragon Roars (which received a negative review from Matthew Castle in 2021), and Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, the 2021 remaster of the series' 2010 debut. By naming convention alone, that remaster sits comfortably alongside titles such as Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time. There are currently no public release date or story details for the new series.
