Marathon’s Runner Shells—AKA heroes—each bring unique abilities and passives. Loot and a well-aimed shot still often decide fights, but characters like Vandal, Recon, and Assassin add tools that reshape engagements. The Thief, true to its name, centers on stealing loot with a remote Pickpocket Drone and escaping with a grappling hook.

The drone is usually a nuisance that zaps enemies and nabs items, not a weapon of mass destruction. Park it on the ground and attach a claymore, however, and it becomes one of the strongest weapons in the game. Players can launch these landmines into others at full force, killing anyone without sufficient shield, and the tripwire range and blast radius are not particularly small—evoking Battlefield’s claymore-laden jeeps and recon drones.

Claymores were already lethal when used to bait other players, and MIDA’s Castling capstone can give Rook a full stack for free, so landmines can be plentiful rather than merely ground-bound.
