Smartphones and desktops have long been used to keep data in sync, but KDE Connect goes further: it lets an Android phone send commands to a Linux desktop. You can lock the screen, shut down or reboot, open apps, print, play media, or build custom actions limited only by your imagination.

To get started, install KDE Connect on both your Android phone and your desktop; if you don't use the KDE Plasma desktop, installing KDE Connect will also install extra dependencies. The Android app is available in the Google Play Store. Pair devices over Bluetooth or a wireless network—wireless offers more range and is generally more reliable—and follow the straightforward pairing process.

If connections fail, check or adjust your firewall. Create commands on the desktop by opening the Run Commands window, clicking Add command, giving it a name, and entering the command to run; you can also choose from the list of pre-defined examples.
