Prime Video's Young Sherlock Offers a Fresh Follow-Up for Sherlock Fans
Audiences who still miss the BBC's Sherlock have a new option. Prime Video's Young Sherlock follows the detective years before he becomes the figure many know, offering a readymade way for viewers to revisit Holmesian mysteries without returning to the original series.
The show centers on a 19-year-old Sherlock at Oxford. He is sharp and abrupt but lacks discipline until an accusation of murder forces him to investigate to clear his name. That first case, pursued recklessly, uncovers a far-reaching conspiracy that changes his path.
Inspired by Andrew Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novels, this version of the character has a criminal past—including time in jail for pickpocketing—and faces different obstacles than Benedict Cumberbatch's Holmes. The series drops the usual John Watson figure, with James Moriarty instead occupying that narrative space, and also expands the Holmes family by introducing a sister and a heavily involved mother, Cordelia.
