Zach Cregger, of Barbarian and Weapons fame, is directing the next Resident Evil film planned for later this year. He has said it will not intersect with the games and likely won't resemble any past films, partly because he has not watched them.

A longtime fan, Cregger says he has put in "thousands and thousands of hours" into various entries in the series and has revealed he has finished Resident Evil Requiem twice.

The article's author notes they completed Requiem in just over 10 hours and that a second playthrough took over seven hours, so finishing it twice is feasible but still a considerable time commitment for a busy director.

Cregger has not finished every game — "He said the scariest one is RE8, he noped out." The writer says they will watch Cregger's film regardless of reviews and expects to enjoy it even if it turns out to be similar to previous entries.
