This week brought several gaming anniversaries — Stardew Valley turned 10, Pokémon marked 30 years, and The Legend of Zelda reached 40 — though Zelda’s milestone passed with little fanfare: no new games or remakes were announced, and the only tie-ins were miniature weapon replicas available in select stores in Japan.

In a recent interview, Patricia Summersett, who has voiced Princess Zelda for a decade, reflected on her long involvement with the series. She appears in Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom and the spinoffs Age of Calamity and Age of Imprisonment, and says she’s a lifelong fan.

Summersett described her audition as a “bleached script” exercise — a role read without clear identities or context — so she didn’t realize she was reading for Zelda. She also explained that Zelda’s British-inflected Hylian accent was her choice, inspired by schooling in London and the character’s royal status.
