10 DIY gadgets I never leave out of my toolkit — Latest news

I'm a collector of tools. This morning I was performing surgery on my 3D printer to enable it to print in four colors and had to choose which set—out of my 12 sets—of screwdrivers to use. Despite heaps of tools, only a handful make it into regular rotation; these are the must-haves that keep a household running.

A multi-bit screwdriver set wins on convenience and price, especially when it includes a few sockets and a small ratchet. My pick is the Wera Tool Check Plus, available in imperial or metric, with a selection of bits and sockets and a tiny but powerful ratchet locked away in a carrying case.

A decent drill is still essential: one that drills wood and metal, hammer-drills concrete and drives screwdriver bits. I prefer cordless tools for convenience and safety, and my Dewalt 20V Max Cordless Drill Driver kit comes with the drill, a 2.0Ah battery, a charger and a toolbag.
