Every four years the Winter Olympics return, and with them the athletic drama on snow and ice. Figure skating, part sport and part performance, has delivered some of the Games' most memorable moments and long inspired filmmakers — from broad comedies to intimate biopics.

As the Milano Cortina games continue, these ten films can complement your viewing. Kiss and Cry (2017) is a Canadian biopic about 18-year-old singer and skater Carley Allison (Sarah Fisher), who battles a rare form of throat cancer. The film follows her determination to keep singing, her relationship with boyfriend John Servinis (Luke Bilyk), and her effort to stay positive.

Fisher, Allison’s real-life best friend, said bringing the story to the screen felt therapeutic, and the film’s personal touch makes it an emotional watch. The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold (2006) follows Jackie Dorsey (Christy Carlson Romano), the daughter of the original film’s protagonists, as she teams with cocky inline skater Alex Harrison (Ross Thomas) to aim for Olympic gold.
