Eleven years after its release, The Big Short remains a compact, star-studded financial thriller. Ryan Gosling was one of many notable names in an ensemble that also included Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Jeremy Strong, Hamish Linklater and Rafe Spall.

Adam McKay directed the film, co-wrote the screenplay with Charles Randolph, and adapted Michael Lewis’s book; it premiered on December 23, 2015 and runs 130 minutes. The picture grossed $133 million worldwide on a $28 million budget, making it one of the most profitable financial thrillers of its era.

Its screenplay won the 2016 Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The Big Short is streaming exclusively on Paramount+, and as a Paramount production it is unlikely to move to another streamer anytime soon. Still, it has seen renewed interest in several markets, climbing back into the Apple TV VOD top 10 in more than five countries.
