2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony set for Feb. 6 in Milan
Nbc reports the 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday, February 6, primarily at Milan’s historic San Siro Stadium. For the first time ever, there will be two cauldrons — at Milan's Arco della Pace and in the Piazza Dibona in Cortina d’Ampezzo — and there will also be simultaneous athlete processions at venues in Predazzo, Livigno and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Coverage of the ceremony will be led by TODAY's Savannah Guthrie and co-host Terry Gannon, joined in the commentary booth by Olympic snowboarding legend Shaun White. “The Olympics have been such a huge part of my life, and to return in this new role — celebrating the athletes, the energy, and the incredible backdrop of Italy — is truly an honor,” White said in a statement.
"I know what that moment means when the world is watching, and I can’t wait to help bring that magic to everyone at home.” The Opening Ceremony will include the Parade of Nations, performances and pyrotechnics, and will culminate with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Performers scheduled to appear include Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli, Pierfrancesco Favino, Laura Pausini and Sabrina Impacciatore; the local Olympic committee said, "Mariah Carey fully represents the emotional atmosphere that accompanies the run-up to the Games.
