3 new Netflix movies to stream this weekend — Johansson’s directorial debut leads
GamesRadar+ highlights three new movies now on Netflix to watch this weekend (Jan 31–Feb 1), ranging from Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut to a documentary about the 1980 Olympic hockey upset. Eleanor the Great is now available in the US and marks Johansson’s first time directing.
The film stars June Squibb as the "witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein," and is described as a "comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell," following Eleanor after a devastating loss as a tale she tells takes on a dangerous life of its own.
M3GAN 2.0, which hit cinemas last summer and is available on Netflix in the US, returns the sassy AI doll with a shift from horror toward action. Set two years after the original, Allison Williams’ character Gemma must bring M3GAN back amid the same tech being used to create a military-grade weapon called Amelia.
GamesRadar+’s M3GAN 2.0 review praised its comedy and character developments while noting some "muddled messaging." Also new on Netflix in the US and UK is the documentary Miracle: The Boys of '80, which blends history, politics and sport to recount the USA men’s ice hockey team’s unexpected victory over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, using new footage and first-hand reflections to explore the upset and its consequences.
