83rd Golden Globes begin in Beverly Hills as best original score is cut from broadcast
The 83rd Golden Globes are set to begin at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, with stars arriving on the red carpet ahead of an 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific) start. The three-hour telecast is airing on CBS and streaming live on Paramount+ for premium subscribers, and Nikki Glaser is returning as host for a second year.
The Globes honor film and television as determined by more than 300 foreign journalists, and viewers often look for clues about potential Oscar contenders despite there being no overlap between Globe voters and the Academy. The ceremony also debuts a best podcast category, with the Globes opting for entertainment podcast nominees including programs hosted by Amy Poehler, Dax Shepard and Jason Bateman.
In a surprise move, the presentation of the best original score will be given at the Beverly Hilton during the ceremony but will not be shown on the telecast, the Hollywood outlet Deadline reported, citing time constraints. Nominees in the category this year include Alexandre Desplat, Ludwig Göransson, Jonny Greenwood, Kangding Ray, Max Richter and Hans Zimmer.
The red carpet has featured shorter, fully covered staging and several fashion trends — silver dresses, draped scarves and aviator shades — and the Globes have continued other programming changes since Penske Media Eldridge took over in 2023, including moving lifetime achievement honors to a separate event that was streamed on Paramount+.
