‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Dothraki Song Translation
The first season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is nearing its end and has gone over incredibly well. Viewers have responded warmly to the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), and the episode "In the Name of the Mother" opens with an extended flashback to Dunk's youth in Flea Bottom and his meeting with Ser Arlan of Pennytree (Danny Webb), the elderly warrior who taught him to be a knight.
During their wanderings Ser Arlan breaks into a song that at first sounds like gibberish but is actually in Dothraki, the language of the horselords from across the Narrow Sea. Dothraki was heard often on Game of Thrones, spoken by the likes of Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen.
David J. Peterson, the conlanger who developed Dothraki and High Valyrian for Game of Thrones, posted an English translation of Ser Arlan's song on his Archive of Our Own account.
