'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Left Out Baelor and Maekar's Fight
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts George R. R. Martin's Dunk and Egg tale with a careful, book‑accurate eye, but it does not match the novella beat for beat. Episode 5, which stages the Trial of Seven, stays tightly with Dunk as he proves his innocence; of the 14 combatants, only Dunk and Aerion receive meaningful screen time during the battle.
The episode still finds room for Baelor's tragic end: he volunteers as a champion and later collapses in Dunk's arms when his helmet is removed to reveal a lethal wound. The confrontation between Baelor and Maekar is not shown, and the episode must explicitly note that Maekar's mace caused the damage so viewers understand what happened.
Martin's novella, while also told from Dunk's perspective, allows brief glimpses of the other skirmishes, describing Maekar fighting Baelor and Lyonel with their weapons "ringing against helm and shield," which helps establish when the blow must have landed.
