A24’s Undertone trailer shows haunted podcast recordings terrorizing host
Collider reports A24 released the first trailer overnight for Undertone, a new horror film that introduces Nina Kiri as Evy, a paranormal skeptic who is pushed toward belief. The film follows Evy, the host of the titular horror-tinged true-crime podcast, during a recording session when she is sent a series of terrifying audio files to review.
Everything they received came from an anonymous email; while Evy hears a jumble of mildly creepy sounds, her co-host believes playing the recordings in reverse reveals a message. The trailer shows words becoming discernible, a nerve-shredding version of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" playing, lights flickering, banging through the house, and a clock speeding back to 3 a.m., with the garbled words spreading beyond her headphones and teasing a demonic presence.
Undertone is the feature directorial and writing debut of Ian Tuason, who first gained recognition on YouTube making virtual-reality horror shorts that racked up millions of views and were showcased at SXSW and beyond. The cast includes Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, and Jeff Yung, and Dan Slater and Cody Calahan are set to produce.
