Movieweb reports that Adam Sandler, accepting the Chairman's Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, said he likely would have ended up working for his father if he had not become an actor.

In his acceptance speech Sandler recalled earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in writing and his parents being "disgruntled" when he chose acting. He said his father, an electrical contractor, told him to "go for your dream, see if you can get something going. If it doesn't work out after one year, you'll come work for me." Sandler joked, "I'd probably know how to charge my own phone," and quipped about vacations and working near a nuclear plant: "then my penis would glow in the dark... I'd definitely be wearing the same clothes I always wear. And I probably wouldn't have a Cadillac right now, or if I did, it would be my father's."

Sandler is promoting his latest film, Jay Kelly, which co-stars George Clooney and Laura Dern. He thanked the audience during the speech, saying, "Thank you guys for letting me have this career... I’m going to try to make more," and when discussing the film and director Noah Baumbach added, "I didn't want to let him down."
