Adidas dropset 4 review: lighter training shoe adds 'runnability'
Independent.co reports that Adidas's new dropset 4 is being billed as the brand’s “most versatile functional training shoe to date,” and the reviewer was sent a pair to test a month ahead of its January launch.
The tester wore the shoe to the gym for a month, using it across strength sessions, gymnastic drills, Olympic lifts, CrossFit workouts and occasional dog walks to assess its versatility. Adidas has added a Continental outsole for grip and durability, Repetitor foam along the midsole for extra bounce, and the company says the shoe now offers more “runnability” for short intervals; it is described as almost 100g lighter than its predecessor (410g vs 316g, in the reviewer’s UK 10.5s). The reviewer found it sleek and comfortable from first wear, noted it fits small (they ordered half a size up and would choose a full size up in future), and highlighted the £110 launch price, which is £20 less than most competitors.
Initial impressions were overwhelmingly positive, and the reviewer says they will proceed to more serious testing to fully judge performance across disciplines; what remains to be seen is how the shoe performs over longer-term use and in more sustained running events, which the dropset 4 is not claimed to be designed for.
