The Simpsons recently passed 800 episodes, and showrunner Matt Selman says Springfield's favorite family will never receive a formal farewell, even when the show eventually leaves screens.
Selman pointed to the season 36 premiere Bart's Birthday, in which Bart — on the cusp of finally celebrating his 11th birthday — is witness to canon rapidly and dramatically changing as the show nears its end.
He added that they made an episode that was a parody of a series finale, packing every possible finale concept into one show as a way of saying they're never going to do a traditional series finale.
