After four years away, fans plot ways Luke Skywalker could return
It's been four years since we've seen Luke Skywalker, and fans have been voicing frustration online while suggesting realistic ways he might return to the franchise — from an animated series to recasting Mark Hamill. One Reddit post noted that it's “absolutely crazy that it's been over a decade since The Force Awakens and the most we've seen of Luke's Jedi Temple was one episode of a Boba Fett spinoff,” prompting replies calling it a “damn shame” that the character has been “hidden away.” Calls for a 2D series are loud and frequent.
One user demanded, “CAN WE JUST F***ING GET AN ANIMATED SERIES??????” and another pointed out that no major screen projects have focused on Luke, Leia or Han outside of reading material. Supporters argued Lucasfilm's animation department has delivered strong work and could produce something in the vein of The Clone Wars, following Padawans battling Imperial and Sith remnants and a rising First Order, possibly set after Thrawn live-action projects.
