Alcaraz says he'd get a kangaroo tattoo if he wins the 2026 Australian Open
People reports that Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, 22, revealed in a video posted by the official Australian Open TikTok account that he plans to get a kangaroo tattoo if he wins the 2026 Australian Open at Melbourne Park, with the tournament running Jan. 12 through Feb. 1. In the clip he named the design as a "Kangaroo" and appeared to point to two possible spots on his legs, though his lower half was cut off so the exact placement was unclear.
"I have a spot here and here, so I would think about it," he said, adding, "I'm a righty, so maybe the right one... next to the Wimbledon one," in reference to the strawberry tattoo he got on his ankle after winning Wimbledon in 2023. Alcaraz began the tattoo tradition after winning the 2022 US Open at age 19, tattooing "11.09.22." above his left tricep, and told the Tennis Channel after his 2024 Wimbledon win that he generally gets tattoos only after winning a major for the first time to "calm" his parents.
He has since added a Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge after his second US Open and the Eiffel Tower with the date of his five-set win over Alexander Zverev after his first French Open in 2024. The Australian Open is the only major he has not won and he has never reached its final; he is considered a favorite this year, and a title would make him the ninth man to complete a career Grand Slam and the youngest to do so, "smashing" Rafael Nadal's record by nearly two years.
