Alex Ross reveals new Marvel characters in exclusive artwork

Alex Ross made his name in the 1990s with Marvels and Kingdom Come, and since then his painterly, hyper-realistic style has mostly appeared on covers. He returned to interior art in 2022 with the graphic novel Fantastic Four: Full Circle, and he'll be back as a page artist later this year when Marvel Dimensions arrives from Abrams ComicsArts.

The book, announced earlier this month, begins by touring the origins of various Marvel heroes before shifting into something more experimental; Ross says, "All these things hopefully seem to unify and combine and come back together, but it’s meant to be a wild ride that is throwing everything plus the kitchen sink at you." Ross also teased the book will contain "about 200 new characters, or at least 200 new variations of characters." An exclusive image from Marvel Dimensions debuts a handful of those new designs.
