Alexander Skarsgård to Host SNL Jan. 31 — From True Blood to New 2026 Films

Alexander Skarsgård will make his Saturday Night Live hosting debut on January 31, with musical guest Cardi B. The episode airs at 11:30 ET/10:30 CT/8:30 PT on NBC and will stream next day on Peacock. Born in Sweden in 1976, Skarsgård landed his first U.S. role in Zoolander (2001) and became a well-known name in America around 2008 for his role as Eric Northman on HBO's True Blood.

He is the oldest son of actor Stellan Skarsgård, who earned an Oscar nomination for the 2025 film Sentimental Value and has appeared in American projects such as The Hunt for Red October, Good Will Hunting and Dune. Seven of Stellan's eight children work in entertainment, including brothers Bill and Gustaf; Bill portrayed Pennywise in It and played the titular monster in Robert Eggers' Nosferatu.

Early in his U.S. career Skarsgård appeared in Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi' video; he told Jimmy Fallon in 2019 that director Jonas Åkerlund asked him to play the boyfriend who wears an eye patch and throws her off a balcony. His film credits include Melancholia (2011), Battleship, The Giver, The Legend of Tarzan (2016), Godzilla vs.

Kong (2021), The Northman (2022) and Infinity Pool (2023). Skarsgård won an Emmy for Big Little Lies and earned Emmy nominations for his role as Lukas Matsson on Succession. He also starred as Randall Flagg in The Stand and made guest appearances on Atlanta, Documentary Now!, Mr. and Mrs.
