Alexandre Aja to direct sequel to Netflix's Under Paris
Netflix's 2024 French horror thriller Under Paris followed a mutated giant shark lurking in the Seine as Paris prepared to host the World Triathlon Championships. The film opened to mixed reviews but surged on the platform, becoming Netflix's second-most-watched non-English film, behind Troll.
A sequel has been ordered, and Alexandre Aja will take over directing duties for Under Paris 2, replacing Xavier Gens. The reason for Gens stepping away has not been made public.
Aja is a known presence in water-based creature features, having directed the campy Piranha 3D and the crocodile disaster film Crawl, as well as the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes and the recent Never Let Go. Netflix has not yet announced who will write the sequel or whether Gens will return in any other capacity.
