Independent.co reports Algeria and Nigeria were level 0-0 at half-time in their AFCON quarter-final in Marrakesh today.

Nigeria enter the match with the competition’s best attacking record, fuelled by Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, while Algeria have conceded only once and field players including Riyad Mahrez, Leverkusen youngster Ibrahim Maza and Dortmund centre-back Ramy Bensebaini. Both sides had won all four of their matches to reach the last eight, and Nigeria have reached the semi-finals in 15 of the past 20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Match coverage described Nigeria as dominating the first half and creating the clearer chances: Adams missed a one-on-one, Bassey’s close-range effort was cleared off the line by Bensebaini after a VAR/goal-line check, Bruno Onyemaechi’s free-kick failed to trouble the goalkeeper, and Osayi-Samuel won a late first-half free-kick.

The winner will play Morocco in Rabat next week after the hosts knocked out Cameroon last night; the second half in Marrakesh is still to come and the final outcome is unknown.
