Alien RPG Starter Set review: Hope's Last Day still impactful
Reporting by Gamesradar says Hope's Last Day remains as impactful as it ever was and serves as a superb entry point to Free League's Alien, horror gameplay, or tabletop RPGs broadly. The Starter Set bundles maps, accessories, a set of dice, a truncated ruleset, character sheets, tokens, cheat-sheet handouts and a small Xenomorph mini.
It contains everything needed to run Hope's Last Day comfortably, but the rules are slashed to essentials and there are limited enemy and item options, making it hard to stretch beyond the module without the core rulebook. Hope's Last Day is a leaner rewrite of the original one-shot, set hours before the events at Hadley's Hope, and it shifts from creeping tension to full-on action across three acts.
The Evolved Rules tweak stress and durability so firefights feel more lethal, and the adventure's secret agendas can place players at odds with one another. The reviewer reports players were genuinely freaked out and called it one of the best horror TTRPG experiences they'd had.
