Alienware Area-51 with AMD X3D arrives — RTX 5090 configs cost up to $7,000
Dell has begun selling the Alienware Area-51 models fitted with AMD X3D chipsets, and while introductory discounts are trimming MSRPs slightly, top-tier RTX 5090 configurations cost as much as $7,000.
More affordable RTX 5080 builds start at $4,449.99, which pairs an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 64GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB SSD. A lower-spec RTX 5070 option begins at $3,749.99.
GamesRadar+ notes the high prices aren’t unique to Dell: AI-driven demand has contributed to a “RAMageddon” and Nvidia’s newest cards often carry pricing that the outlet says isn’t aimed at typical PC gamers. Adding one of the current best CPUs for gaming, the Ryzen X3D chip, has pushed MSRPs higher even as it can improve frame rates over the Intel Area-51 model tested.
The 2026 Area-51 line is designed for upgradability, featuring a standard ATX motherboard and space for custom cooling, and adopts a more understated, grounded look compared with the older egg-shaped Aurora R15 designs.
Dell’s customization options can reduce costs somewhat, but GamesRadar+ says you’re still often looking at around the $4,000 mark for RTX 5080 systems, and rival brands likely won’t offer much savings if an RTX 5090 is a must-have. It remains unclear whether the current introductory discounts will persist long-term.
