Alolan Raichu kept a player from finishing Pokémon Sun and Moon
Kotaku reports that the outlet’s writer has never finished Pokémon Sun and Moon or their enhanced versions, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, despite completing every other mainline Pokémon game.
The writer says the reason is largely personal: Raichu is their favorite Pokémon, and they felt sidelined by the Alolan variant. They object to the regional form’s pancake-based origin story, its added psychic typing and surf-on-tail visuals, and what they see as broader favoritism toward Pikachu—examples cited include a held item that benefits Pikachu and Pikachu’s prominent special forms and game appearances.
The writer adds they have tried multiple times over the past 10 years to finish the Alola games but didn’t want to do it without their preferred Raichu. They say Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which gives Raichu two Mega Evolutions, might change their mind; they prefer the flying, physical-attacking X Mega form but still feel some lingering resentment and may not return immediately, though they are starting to let go of the pride that kept them from finishing.
