Amazfit Active Max review: $170 watch with huge battery and bright AMOLED
The Amazfit Active Max is available now for $169.99 and features a 1.5-inch AMOLED display and up to 25 days of battery life, ZDNET reports.
In hands-on use over three weeks the reviewer said the watch still had 24% battery after tracking outdoor runs, rowing sessions, daily life and sleep. The Active Max charges via an included magnetic puck and USB-C, and builds on the Active 2 with higher peak brightness, more than twice the battery life, a larger display and increased storage for offline maps, including ski maps.
The watch is powered by the Zepp smartphone app, which includes a Food Log that can log nutrition by recognizing meal photos and can be used even without an Amazfit watch. The Active Max also adds a speaker and mic for call control, Android messaging from the watch, and phone camera and music controls; Zepp Coach adjusts workouts based on sleep, recovery and workout status and offers personalized running plans.
ZDNET notes limits for some users: the Active Max comes in one size, has limited third-party app support, lacks features such as Strava Live Segments, subscription music and mobile payments, and some advanced reports require a subscription. After three weeks the reviewer said the watch exceeded expectations but that software improvements and additional service integrations would increase its appeal.
