Amazon on Wednesday said it plans to lay off 16,000 corporate employees. An Amazon employee used an AI tool to analyze internal conversations and compile a list of potential teams and organizations affected, according to messages viewed by Business Insider. The employee said they used an AI tool called Pippin to create the list and posted on Slack: "Used Pippin to help me parse conversations from today," adding, "Please note that this info may not be 100% accurate.

Take care, everyone!" Business Insider noted employees have been using Pippin increasingly for writing and reviewing documents. Business Insider reported the list is AI-generated and appears to be based on internal Slack conversations, so it may contain inaccuracies. Amazon did not respond to a request to verify the list, and Business Insider edited the list for length and clarity.

Business Insider independently reviewed internal messages related to several teams named on the list, including the AI cloud service Bedrock, the cloud data warehouse Redshift, the ProServe consulting team, the Prime subscription service, and the last-mile Delivery Experience team.

The broader AI-generated list names many AWS services (such as EC2 Networking, Aurora, RDS, and OpenSearch), Alexa groups, retail and operations teams including Last Mile and SCOT, Prime Video (Live TV, Doppler), and corporate groups like PXT and Amazon Global Services. The announcement follows October's round of cuts when Amazon shed 14,000 roles.
