Amazon FAQ outlines pay, benefits and next steps for 16,000 laid-off employees
Amazon is cutting 16,000 corporate roles, and an internal FAQ viewed by Business Insider lays out what affected employees will receive and how the process will work. This is the company’s second mass layoff since October, when Amazon eliminated 14,000 roles. The FAQ says employees who receive a layoff notification are no longer required to perform any work and will receive full pay and benefits for 90 days plus an additional severance package.
Amazon’s public announcement said most US-based employees will have 90 days to search for internal roles, and the FAQ states affected employees are welcome to apply during that period. The document says formal announcement paperwork arriving within the next 24 hours will detail how severance is calculated, and severance and release agreements will be sent to employees’ personal email no less than ten days after separation.
Medical, vision, dental and other benefits will generally continue through the last day of the month in which employment ends, with possible transitional coverage outlined in severance documents. The FAQ covers logistics and support: employees should complete a Personal Belongings Survey to arrange return of items (Amazon will aim to return items within two weeks but it may take up to 30 days, and items may be disposed of or donated if no response is received by February 13).
