Team USA's Amber Glenn, a three-time U.S. champion from Texas, skated second-to-last in the Olympic short program on February 17 to 'Like a Prayer.' Madonna recorded a video for Glenn, saying, "You are an incredible skater, so strong, so beautiful, so brave. I can't imagine that you would not win.

So, I just want to say good luck. Go get that gold." Glenn replied, "I hope I can do the song justice." Her Blade Angels teammates Alysa Liu and Isabeau Levito posted scores of 76.59 and 70.84, respectively. The routine featured a nailed triple axel, but Glenn under-rotated a later triple jump.

Judges marked that element invalid after it registered as a double, which cost her seven points. She received 67.39 for the short program and finished the segment in 13th place. Glenn was in tears while awaiting her score; analyst Tara Lipinski called the miss "heartbreaking." In a post-skate interview, Glenn said she "just lost focus" and that she "did the hard stuff, so I was just in shock," ending her program in disbelief.
